Economic Empowerment

Economic Empowerment

I want to make our city pro-business and anti-poverty. Peoria can be a place where everyone has a quality job with dignified work and a living wage.

How:

Support Small Businesses – make it easier for small businesses to start and grow
  1. Prioritize local businesses and startups over out-of-town corporations and chains
  2. Reduce or waive permit fees for first-time small business owners or small-scale developers
  3. Require city staff to propose alternatives before rejecting permit applications
Equitable Development – support development towards more equitable outcomes
  1. Support Community Benefit Agreements – agreements made between the City, a developer, and the community which invite residents to the table with developers to discuss what the needs of the community are.
  2. Support Inclusionary Zoning that requires developers that build large-scale housing to reserve a portion of their units at an affordable rate.
